Student Council WETNS
At Waterford Educate Together National School, we believe that every child’s voice matters. Our Student Council gives pupils a meaningful way to share ideas, contribute to school life, and help shape the kind of community they want to learn and grow in.

What Is the Student Council?
Our Student Council is made up of elected representatives from 3rd to 6th Class, with elections held early each school year. These students work together to represent the views of their classmates, discuss school improvements, and collaborate on events and initiatives that benefit our whole school community.
The Council is coordinated by Muinteoir Fiona, who supports the children as they build confidence, leadership skills, and a strong sense of responsibility.
Representation From All Classes
-
Junior Infants – 2nd Class are represented by students from the senior classes. These senior pupils visit the younger classes to listen to their ideas, ensure their voices are included, and bring their suggestions to Council meetings.
-
3rd – 6th Classes hold formal elections where each class chooses their own representative for the year.
This mixed-age structure strengthens communication, builds a sense of community, and helps younger children feel included and heard.
What Does the Student Council Do?
Throughout the year, our Student Council:
-
Brings forward suggestions from the student body
-
Participates in school decision-making where appropriate
-
Supports whole-school initiatives and events
-
Helps promote inclusivity, kindness, and active citizenship
-
Encourages student involvement across all aspects of school life
Representatives learn how to communicate clearly, work as a team, problem-solve, and show leadership — skills that benefit them far beyond the classroom.
