Daily Mile Flag

Waterford ETNS Earns The Daily Mile Flag!
We are delighted to share that Waterford Educate Together National School has been awarded The Daily Mile Flag, recognising our outstanding dedication to supporting children’s physical and mental wellbeing through regular movement and activity.
The Daily Mile is a simple but powerful initiative that encourages every child to walk, jog, or run for 15 minutes every day — rain, hail, or shine! Our pupils have embraced it with huge enthusiasm, making it part of their daily routine and showing that small, consistent efforts can lead to big improvements in fitness, focus, and mood.
A Visit From Olympic Hero Thomas Barr
As part of our celebration of The Daily Mile, we were honoured to welcome Irish Olympian Thomas Barr to our school.
Thomas spoke to pupils about:
-
his journey in athletics,
-
the importance of daily movement,
-
and how small, everyday habits can grow into incredible achievements.
His encouraging message really resonated with our pupils — especially his words:
“If you keep showing up, you’ll keep getting stronger.”
His visit was a wonderful highlight for the whole school and a fantastic way to celebrate the children’s commitment to The Daily Mile.
❤️ Why It Matters
Taking part in The Daily Mile helps children to:
-
Improve concentration, boost mood, and stay engaged in learning
-
Build healthy habits that last a lifetime
-
Enjoy a positive, active, and inclusive school culture
-
Strengthen resilience, confidence, and overall wellbeing
Earning the official Daily Mile Flag is a testament to our commitment to whole-child wellbeing — physical, mental, emotional, and social.
Our Daily Mile achievements — and Thomas Barr’s inspiring visit — reflect the energy, joy, and spirit of our pupils, staff, and wider school community.
We’re proud to be a Daily Mile school, and even prouder of the determination, teamwork, and positivity our children show every single time they hit the yard.
